I don’t know anything about these cars other than what’s on the wikipedia page. If this is a legit one, it’s worth quite a bit more than $3500.

I notice he doesn’t mention anything about the engine. And it’s basically worthless without the numbers matching engine.

I’ve always wanted to ecotec turbo swap one. Pull a Solstice GXP power train and swap it in.

Or a Cosworth DFV, but that’d be horribly expensive.

Get a normal Vega and do that. It’ll be cheaper and less sacrilegious .

Right, that does sketch me out a bit. I could call but there’s no way in hell I’m going to buy it, so I won’t waste any time.

But the sacrilege is what makes it so good.

My god talk about a run on sentence.

Also is it just me or does it drive anyone else up a wall when some feels the need to point out that this is the only one with a stripe built in some year as if that somehow adds value.

unfortunately, they are actually worth more with a 350 truck engine.  There was a 15,000 mile example for sale here forever.  Nicest one in the world, couldn’t give it away.

Run on sentences? Welcome to Craigslist, friend.

And yeah. “My Challenger was 1 of 15 built in 2017 with Plum Crazy Purple, base wheels, top of the line interior, stock exhaust, and a Mopar strut bar. It’s rare and gonna be worth something!”

Fair enough. I was looking at Cummins swapped Mustangs earlier.

Vegas are no longer cheap to mess with.  ( ask my buddy who’s 14k into one that doesn’t yet have closing doors.

It’s just old retired white guys desperately trying to think they’re significant because their car has a sticker on it

That’s disappointing. So it’s going the way of the Chevette where people realized “hey, an SBC fits in this thing!”? Because ain’t nobody tuning a 2300.

Edit: scrolled through your posts aaaaaand that’s exactly what you did. Still love tiny cars with big engines.

See, the best part of a turbo diesel mustang is every part of it.

It’s worth more as a driver with a V8, sure, but as a collector? Nope. Especially not if the collectible value derives directly from being the fastest head-warper in the country.

Given that this car supposedly had a couple of AHRA records, I doubt it’s got its original engine. The decals and number seem to line up though, so the competition history and clean body probably make $3500 reasonable especially if it has a drivetrain .

Bad car with cool engine is still bad car.  And not subjectively, the vega was a terrible car.

There’s also a 454 sitting by it.   But it’s already going to break in half with a stout 355.

Check out John Z. DeLorean’s “on a clear day you can see general motors” The Vega is worse than you’ve heard. It was designed by Managment accountants. The prototype started breaking in half at 14 minutes of moving under its own power.  (it gained 300 pounds to fix this minor issue) Chevrolet Wanted nothing to do with this lump of shit, But the 14th floor was God, Chevy was Abraham and the Vega was the pointless sacrifice that started a bunch of shit we’re still cleaning up.

Afraid your objective idea is completely wrong there. The Vega is an H-body, which turned into the Monza . When DeKon got their hands on the H-body platform, they completely dominated IMSA and ASSC. The DeKons were slapping Porsche’s best around well into the 80's.

The Vega was a bad car because they refused to accept that all the advanced technology they insisted on using wasn’t anywhere near production ready in any form. Even then, on the tires of the day, they managed significantly better lateral grip than literally any other car on the road period.

They also severely de-contented it at the 11th hour, and went down a couple tire sizes, and cheaped out. Might have gotten away with the bad engine if the rest of the car was O.K. But it wasn’t. Chevy had a prototype econobox that was basically a reverse engineered corolla with an iron 1600 cc hemi-head four. But GM said “no, your going to buil d this”  Being an accountant does not make you an engineer any more than speaking french makes you a doctor.  (I speak french,  poorly, but enough to get those tonsils out!)   What was good about the H-cars id that they were with us until 2002 in the form of the 3rd and 4th gen Camaro,  which is way more Monza than it is traditional Camaro.  It doesn’t make the Vega good by tranference.

When I was young, I remember someone who had a Vega they bought new. It was either a 1976 or 1977 model as the rear looked like this:

Kinja'd!!!

I recall the 2300 4 cylinder sounding somewhat like a diesel engine.

I also recall that even though it had amber turn signal *lenses*, the actual turn signals only flashed the red brake light as the there was no actual turn signal light behind the amber turn signal lenses.

I also recall the owner saying that it was less-than-trouble-free... though I can’t remember what the specific issues were anymore.

They got rid of it after a couple of years and replaced it with some other common domestic car that was more reliable... I think it was a 1st Gen RWD GM X-Body and I recall him saying it had heavy duty springs.

I don’t know why I remembered a detail like that.
